### In the lessons

In science lessons on materials, pupils test shininess to sort metals from other materials (metals are usually shiny) and learn that smooth surfaces reflect more light. In art and computer drawing, shininess is how glossy something is. In everyday life, adverts boast about the shininess of hair, cars and shoes.
