## In Jewish tradition

People shout in joy, in battle and in worship. Psalms call all the earth to shout to God, and at Jericho the people shouted and the walls fell.

**Interpretation.** The tradition reads shouting as joyful praise of God, linked to the teruah, the trumpet blast. It sees the shout at Jericho as the people's faith in God's help.
