## In Jewish tradition

In the Tanakh to sit can mean to rest on a seat, bed or ground, but also to sit as a king on a throne or to sit in the city gate, where leaders judged and met. Sitting on a throne means ruling.

**Interpretation.** The tradition sees the gate and the throne as places of justice and rule, where a king or judge sits to lead the people.
