### Meaning

"sle" is not an English word by itself; it is a piece of words such as "sleep", "sled", "sleeve" or "isle".

### In the lessons

It may appear when a longer word is cut short, for example in a list or by a typing mistake.

### Examples

- "Sle" is the start of "sleep".
- "Sled" begins with "sle".
- The word "sleeve" starts with s-l-e.
- "Isle" ends with "sle".
- Check your spelling if you see "sle" alone.
- "Sleepy" and "sleet" begin with the same three letters.

### Note

Not a word; do not use it alone. If you find it in a text, it is probably part of a longer word or a typing error. Note "isle" (an island) is pronounced like "I'll"; the "s" is silent.
