In everyday life children go sledging on snowy hills in winter; safety rules say go down feet first, check the bottom of the hill is clear of trees, roads and water, and wear a helmet. In stories Santa's sledge (sleigh) is pulled by reindeer; explorers used dog sledges in the Arctic and Antarctic. In science sledges show friction: runners slide easily because ice and snow have low friction. Phrases: «go sledging», «dog sledge», «sledge run».
