In design and technology and science lessons pupils solder components onto circuit boards; it makes a strong electrical connection. Safety: the soldering iron is extremely hot (over 300 °C), wear goggles, work in air that moves and wash hands after. ## In Jewish tradition

It is the metal joining used by craftsmen when they make an idol.

**Interpretation.** Isaiah mocks idol-makers who encourage one another and nail down their idol so it will not fall. The tradition reads this as showing how foolish it is to trust things people make.
