# spacious

adjective (spacious, more spacious, most spacious)

«spacious» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

A spacious room, house or car has a lot of space inside it; it is big and roomy. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/S/spacious/#m1)

### In the lessons

In everyday life house adverts say «spacious kitchen» or «spacious garden». In writing lessons it is a better word than «big» for a room. In maths, area tells you how spacious a room is: length × width. Phrases: spacious room, spacious garden, light and spacious.

### Note

Adjective. Spelling trap: «spacious» (with c), not «spatious». The noun is «space». It describes inside space; for outside places people often say «open» or «wide».

## In Jewish tradition

Jeremiah describes a king building himself a wide house with large rooms.

**Interpretation.** Jeremiah condemns the king for building a grand palace while treating workers unfairly. Tradition teaches that justice matters more than fine buildings.

### Examples

- That saith: 'I will build me a wide house and spacious chambers', and cutteth him out windows, and it is ceiled with cedar, and painted with vermilion. (Prophets JER.22.14, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/S/spacious/#x1)
