## In Jewish tradition

In Jeremiah it describes nations made drunk with the cup of God's anger, so that they vomit and fall.

**Interpretation.** The prophets' image shows judgment as a cup of wrath that no nation can refuse, and the commentators read the drunkenness as helpless ruin.
