### In the lessons

In science lessons about plants, the stamen is one of the parts of a flower, along with the petals, sepals and the carpel (pistil), which is the female part. Bees and wind carry pollen from the stamens of one flower to the carpel of another; this is pollination, which leads to seeds.

### Note

Countable; plural «stamens» (the old plural «stamina» is very rare and confusing because «stamina» also means energy to keep going). Trap: do not mix up stamen (male) with stigma, style and ovary, which are parts of the female carpel.
