## In Jewish tradition

In Sefer Yetzirah it means the twenty-two foundation letters, the basic threads from which God formed everything.

**Interpretation.** The book teaches that God made the world from the twenty-two letters, which He engraved, carved and combined. Translator Kalisch used the Latin word for "threads" to mean the basic elements.
