### Note

The thing being counted; carries no operation clue. Stamps in two places together are added. Trap: «keeps 3 and gives the rest» means the rest = total − 3. «stamp» (foot) and «stomp» mean nearly the same.

## In Jewish tradition

In Sefer Yetzirah it means to mark or impress, as if pressing a seal into a thing. Here God stamped the letters into the storms of the air. In the Prophets it also means to strike the ground with the feet, as horses' hooves do in battle, or to trample enemies like mud.

**Interpretation.** It expresses the idea that God fixed the letters into the elements of the world, like a seal pressed into wax. They are the pattern behind creation. In Deborah's song and in David's psalm the stamping is a picture of victory over enemies.

### Examples

- God has carried these through waters, He has borne them aloft through fire, and He has stamped them in the storms of the air; He has distributed them among the seven stars, and has assigned them to twelve celestial constellations.
