### In the lessons

In everyday life and maths, buildings are described by storeys: a two-storey house, a ten-storey block of flats. In maths problems, you may multiply storeys by height per storey. In stories, a giant may be "three storeys tall". Phrases: "a two-storey house", "multi-storey car park", "on the top storey".

### Note

British, Irish, Australian and New Zealand spelling: storey, plural storeys. American spelling: story, plural stories — the same as a tale! So in American books "a three-story house" means floors, not tales. In maths: total height ≈ number of storeys × height of one storey. In the UK the "ground floor" is the bottom; in the USA that is the "first floor".
