# sufficient

adjective (sufficient); adverb sufficiently; noun sufficiency

«sufficient» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

(formal) Enough; as much as is needed for a purpose. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/S/sufficient/#m1)

### In the lessons

A formal exam and science word: «sufficient water», «sufficient evidence», «Is 20 pounds sufficient to buy...?» In maths, compare what is needed with what you have. Phrases: «sufficient for», «sufficient to», «self-sufficient» (able to look after yourself).

## In Jewish tradition

Used just as in everyday English, meaning enough.

**Interpretation.** In the law of lending, "sufficient for his need" is read as a duty to help a poor person with what he truly lacks.
