# sundae

noun (a sundae, sundaes)

«sundae» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

A sundae is a dessert of ice cream topped with sauce, such as chocolate or strawberry, and often with whipped cream, nuts, sprinkles and a cherry, served in a tall glass or bowl. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/S/sundae/#m1)

### In the lessons

In everyday life, children order sundaes at ice-cream parlours, cafés and birthday treats. In maths word problems, sundaes appear in counting combinations («3 flavours and 2 toppings — how many different sundaes?»). In healthy-eating lessons, a sundae is a «sometimes» treat. Phrases: «an ice-cream sundae», «a hot fudge sundae», «build your own sundae».

### Examples

### Note

Spelled «sundae», not «Sunday», though it sounds the same (a homophone) and the name may come from «Sunday». Countable: «two sundaes». In combination problems, multiply the choices: flavours × toppings.
