### In the lessons

In science and health lessons sweating cools the body: sweat dries (evaporates) from the skin and takes heat away. When you sweat a lot in sport or hot weather, drink water to replace it. In hygiene lessons, wash and change clothes after sweating so you don't smell. Phrases: cold sweat, no sweat (easy), sweat it out, break a sweat, sweatshirt.

## In Jewish tradition

In "the sweat of thy face" it stands for hard labor, part of Adam's punishment after he ate the forbidden fruit.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads this as the start of human work. Work is seen as hard, but also as a way to live well and be responsible.
