### In the lessons

In social studies and news, tariffs make imported goods cost more. In everyday UK life, families choose a phone or energy tariff. In maths problems, a tariff can be a percentage added to a price or a rate per unit: «the tariff is 10% on each car».

### Note

Spelled with one r and two f's: tariff. Plural: tariffs. In maths, a tariff of 10% means multiply the price by 10/100 and add it: 200 + 20 = 220.
