### Meaning

1. (euphemism, humorous, UK) the toilet.
2. (literal) the room that is smallest in size.

### In the lessons

A coy British joke-name for the toilet, since it is often the smallest room in a home; used by older people and in light humour. It avoids saying «toilet».

### Examples

- (UK) Excuse me, where is the smallest room?
- (Grandpa) He's reading the newspaper in the smallest room.
- (joke) I do my best thinking in the smallest room in the house.
- (house advert) The smallest room has been newly tiled.
- (literal, maths) Of the three rooms, 9 m², 12 m² and 15 m², the smallest room is 9 m².
- (chat) hiding in the smallest room from the washing-up lol

### Note

Trap: in a maths problem or house plan it means the room with the least area, not the toilet. As a euphemism it is gentle and old-fashioned, a bit cute.
