# thereof

adverb (formal, legal)

«thereof» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition and Early Modern English — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

(formal, legal) Of that, of it, or of those just mentioned. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/T/thereof/#m1)

### In the lessons

A very stiff word in legal papers, rules and old exams: "any part thereof" means any part of it. Children mostly meet it in official notices and fees. Phrases: or part thereof, lack thereof.

### Examples

- Parking costs 2 dollars per hour or part thereof. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/T/thereof/#x1)

Old-fashioned and formal; in plain English say "of it" or "of that". Maths trap: "per hour or part thereof" means you pay for any started hour as a whole hour, so 2 hours 10 minutes is charged as 3 hours.

## In Jewish tradition

Old formal word meaning "of it" or "of them." The Torah uses it to name the parts of an object, such as the vessels or poles of the Tabernacle furniture.
