## In Jewish tradition

Jacob was hurt in the thigh while wrestling, and the right thigh of peace-offerings was given to the priest. Elsewhere a sword is girded on the thigh, and a thigh of meat was set before Saul as an honored portion.

**Interpretation.** Because of Jacob's hurt thigh, Jews traditionally do not eat the sciatic nerve (gid hanasheh) of an animal.
