### In the lessons

Phrases: «tiptoe», «on your toes» (alert), «from head to toe», «toe the line» (obey the rules), «tread on someone's toes» (upset them), «dip a toe in».

## In Jewish tradition

The great toe of Aaron's right foot was touched with blood at the priests' consecration. Toes are also cut off from a captured king, and a giant is described as having six toes on each foot.

**Interpretation.** In Sefer Yetzirah the ten toes and ten fingers stand for the covenant of circumcision and the covenant of the tongue. In Daniel, the toes of iron and clay in the statue are read as a kingdom partly strong and partly broken.

### Examples

- And when it was slain, Moses took of the blood thereof, and put it upon the tip of Aaron's right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot. (Torah LEV.8.23, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/T/toe/#x1)
