## In Jewish tradition

Describes weak, shaking knees or loins, from fasting, fear or drunkenness; it also describes leaders who stumble in judgment.

**Interpretation.** The psalms use it for the suffering of the righteous, and the prophet Isaiah uses it to blame priests and prophets who ought to guide the people but are drunk.

### Examples

- But these also reel through wine, and stagger through strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel through strong drink, they are confused because of wine, they stagger because of strong drink; they reel in vision, they totter in judgment.
