## In Jewish tradition

To tread down with the feet. It can mean animals crushing something, enemies crushing people, or God overcoming evil, and in Isaiah it describes people trampling the Temple courts.

**Interpretation.** In Isaiah, God says He does not want people who come with offerings but do wrong, and so prophets teach that justice matters more than ritual. In Psalm 91 the righteous are protected from danger by God.
