# triceps

noun (the triceps, triceps — same form for one and many)

«triceps» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

The triceps is the big muscle at the back of your upper arm, which straightens your arm at the elbow. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/T/triceps/#m1)

### In the lessons

Used in science lessons about muscles and movement: muscles work in pairs; the biceps bends the arm and the triceps straightens it (antagonistic pair). In PE: push-ups work the triceps.

### Examples

- The triceps straightens your arm. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/T/triceps/#x1)

### Note

Same form for singular and plural: one triceps, both triceps. Not "tricep" in careful use. "Tri-" means three: it has three parts at the top.
