# turban

noun (a turban, turbans)

## Everyday

A turban is a long piece of cloth wound around the head, worn by men (and some women) in many cultures, especially by Sikhs as part of their faith. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/T/turban/#m1)

### In the lessons

In religious education lessons, pupils learn that Sikhs wear a turban (dastar) to cover their uncut hair, as a sign of faith, equality and respect; turbans are also worn in parts of the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. In lessons on respect and diversity, children learn never to touch or tease someone's head covering. Phrases: «wear a turban», «tie a turban».
