## In Jewish tradition

Twelve is the number of Jacob's sons and so of the tribes of Israel.

**Interpretation.** Tradition links twelve to the tribes, and Sefer Yetzirah sees twelve "simple" letters matching the twelve months and the signs of the zodiac.
