# uncivil

adjective (uncivil)

«uncivil» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

Rude and impolite; not showing good manners. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/U/uncivil/#m1)

### In the lessons

A manners word, a bit formal and old-fashioned. In Alice in Wonderland Alice often thinks the creatures are uncivil — the Caterpillar, the Hatter, the Duchess — while Alice tells the Hatter that making personal remarks is very rude, and the March Hare says it was not very civil of her to sit down without being invited. In everyday life being uncivil means not being polite.
