## In Jewish tradition

Unleavened bread, called matzah, is what the Israelites ate when they left Egypt in a hurry. The Torah commands it for the seven days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

**Interpretation.** Jews keep this as Passover (Pesach) and eat matzah to remember the Exodus. They also remove all leavened food (chametz) from their homes.
