### Note

Countable. Verb: value, valued. A valuation is an estimate of worth; the actual price paid can be higher or lower.

## In Jewish tradition

In Leviticus 27 it is the priest's set price for a person or thing given to God, counted in silver shekels.

**Interpretation.** The rabbis explain that a person who vows his "worth" to the Temple pays by a fixed scale of age and sex, not by his real value. It shows that every person is of value.

### Examples

- And if it be a female, then thy valuation shall be thirty shekels. (Torah LEV.27.4, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/V/valuation/#x1)
