### In the lessons

In everyday life and health lessons, some families and pupils are vegetarian for reasons of health, animal care, religion or the environment. School menus often have a vegetarian option. Vegetarians may still eat eggs and dairy; vegans eat no animal products at all. In science, animals that eat only plants are «herbivores», not «vegetarians». Phrases: «vegetarian option», «a vegetarian diet», «go vegetarian».

Countable noun and adjective; one word. Short form: «veggie». Trap: a vegetarian is not a vegan; vegetarians often eat cheese, milk and eggs. For animals use «herbivore».
