### In the lessons

In maths, volume is the space inside a 3-D shape: for a cuboid, volume = length × width × height, in cubic centimetres (cm³) or cubic metres (m³). In science, the volume of a liquid is measured with a measuring cylinder in millilitres (ml) or litres (l). In everyday life volume is mostly about sound: TV, music, voice. Phrases: turn the volume up/down, volume control, full volume, in volume, volume of water.

### Examples

### Note

Maths: volume is 3-D (cubic units: cm³, m³); area is 2-D (square units: cm²); perimeter is length around (cm). 1 litre = 1000 ml = 1000 cm³. «Volume» (space) is not «mass» or «weight» (how heavy). In safety: keep headphone volume low to protect your ears.
