## In Jewish tradition

A week is a set of seven days ending with the Sabbath. The "feast of weeks" is Shavuot, held after seven weeks of counting. In Daniel, "three whole weeks" is a period of mourning and fasting, and Ezekiel's "weeks upon weeks" means long stretches of time.

**Interpretation.** The week is tradition's way of recalling creation's seven days. The seven weeks counted between Passover and Shavuot link freedom to receiving the Torah. Daniel's three weeks of mourning is read as a model of repentance and humbling oneself.
