In everyday life most children go to school on weekdays and have the weekend off; timetables, bus times and shop hours often differ on weekdays. In maths there are 5 weekdays in a week, so problems ask how many weekdays are in two weeks (10) or how much is spent each weekday. Phrases: on weekdays, every weekday, weekday mornings.

### Note

Countable: a weekday, weekdays. Opposite: the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Maths trap: "each day" is 7 days a week but "each weekday" is only 5. In some countries the working week is different, but in English-speaking countries weekdays are Monday to Friday.
