### Meaning

1. (everyday) a father, divorced or separated from the mother, who sees his children only at weekends.
2. (critical) a father who only does fun things and leaves the hard work to the mother.

### In the lessons

A neutral or sometimes critical description used by families, social workers and the press in all English-speaking countries. It can be sad, or a mild complaint.

### Examples

- (family) Since the divorce, he's been a weekend dad.
- (chat) my mates' dad is a weekend dad, they go to the cinema every saturday
- (article) Tips for weekend dads to stay close to their kids.
- (critical) He's a weekend dad: pizza and games, no homework.
- (maths) A weekend dad who sees his kids 2 days out of 7 sees them on 2/7 of the days.
- (story) Every Saturday the weekend dad picked them up at ten.

### Note

Trap: «weekend» is a time, not part of his name. Can sound unfair to dads who want more time. Sensitive for children of divorced parents.
