### Meaning

1. (euphemism, humorous, UK) fat, plump.
2. (literal) of furniture: having thick padding and covering.

### In the lessons

A playful, old-fashioned British way to describe a plump person, comparing them to a soft armchair; used in gossip and light humour. The literal sense is about sofas and chairs.

### Examples

- (gossip) The landlady was a well-upholstered woman with a loud laugh.
- (joke) Dad says he's well-upholstered, not fat.
- (old novel) A well-upholstered gentleman sat by the fire.
- (literal) The hotel has well-upholstered armchairs.
- (shop) This well-upholstered sofa seats three.
- (chat) my nan calls herself well-upholstered lol

### Note

Trap: «upholstery» = the padding and fabric on furniture. About people it means fat — it is a joke, but personal. Similar: «well-padded».
