## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah, God "opening the womb" means giving a woman children. In Job the womb is also where people are formed, and a place from which even ice is said to come.

**Interpretation.** Tradition says God alone controls birth. Job's words, "did not One fashion us in the womb?", are read as saying that God made rich and poor alike.
