## In Jewish tradition

It means bowed down in reverence. Moses bows to God, but the Torah warns against people who bowed to idols, the sun, the moon or the stars.

**Interpretation.** Jewish law forbids worshipping the sun, moon and stars, and the law against idol worship is among the gravest. Moses bowing at Sinai is seen as a model of humble reverence.
