### In the lessons

In maths and geography lessons, problems may change pounds or dollars into yen; one yen is worth very little, so prices in Japan have big numbers (a snack might cost 150 yen). In everyday talk, having a yen for something means really wanting it.

### Note

Plural is the same: one yen, 500 yen (not yens). In maths, a big number of yen is not much money, because one yen is worth less than a penny or a cent. The Chinese yuan has a similar sign but is different money.
